Easy Morphic GUI (EMG)
Easy Morphic GUI (EMG) aims at providing an easy way to build GUIs for Squeak applications using Morphic. A small framework allows linking the application business objects with the GUI objects.
Every application should include at least one GUI class that subclasses the EMGGuiMorph class in order to connect business and GUI objects. It defines instance variables that reference business objects. It also provides methods that trigger application computations. Besides, each instance of this class acts as a container for morphs that materialize the GUI.
EMG has a "protype-like" approach. The GUI class has a single instance, refered to as "protype", that is copied (deepCopy) on every attempt to create a new instance. Developers draw the GUI by creating morphs and dropping them into the GUI morph. Morphs are prepared to fit the application requirements mainly through halos. It's also possible to use e-toys for scripting. Morphs are referenced into the GUI class methods based on their external name that shows up when displaying halos.
GUIs morphs (i.e. instances of subclasses of EMGGuiMorph class) have a special extension of the Menu halo that helps editing the gui. Example of actions are creating row or column conainers or horizontal or vertical space fillers. Containers and space fillers are displayed with bright colors to ease edition. The're made transparent when editing is over.
